Been to Mumbai in 2001 during the 45th Batch Midshipman MSTD (Midshipman Sea Training Deployment). I'm actually from the 46th Batch, but tagged along as my course has not started yet. Concurrent with the MSTD, our ship was also taking part in the 2001 International Fleet Review with ships and personnels from 19 other nations.

Gateway of India

Gateway of India (Mumbai aka Bombay)

A big, famous, and utterly useless piece of architecture, the Gateway of India is remarkable only for it's unremarkability. It may have appeared somewhat impressive 80 years ago, but to me it looks like something out of an old 3D FPS game. Dull, blockish, with simple flat decoration by the side to make it looks a little more fancy.

It is at Bombay that the smell of all Asia boards the ship miles off shore,
and holds the passenger's nose till he is clear of Asia again.
